Abstract
For the monitoring of the sewer storm overflows, the "Velocity x Section" continuous flow measurement technique is used to calibrate the "Water level - Flow rate" relations when univocal relations can exist, and to measure the flow rate otherwise. The technique of velocity measurement by Doppler effect is relatively inexpensive but the representativeness of the measure remain fuzzy. To solve this problem, the velocity sensor can be placed under a float. This technique facilitates the installation and the maintenance of the sensor and permits to quantify a resulting uncertainty lower than ± 20% when the height of water passes 0.15 times the range of measurement of the water level sensor used.
