Abstract
This paper presents the needs felt both for flood crisis monitoring and management and flood prevention. Issues covered are data resolution and availability and real-time supply of images. At present satellite observation systems provide only partial answers to these needs. In particular, they are not yet efficient enough to allow real-time use.
