La diffusion moléculaire
Maître Assitant, Faculté des Sciences de Paris.
This paper briefly reviews present ideas o the subject of local diffusion quations for a multi-component flowing fluid. The first part deals with binary isothermal diffusion, in which the importance of strict definition of the diffusion coefficient for the chosen reference systems, concentration units and flux is emphasised and the exact origin of the Stefan correction is shown. The most general problem is discussed in the second and third parts, stressing the mutual effects of diffusion, heat transfer, chemical reactions and fluid stresses, and these problems are considered from the irreversible phenomena thermodynamics angle, a point of view whose chief protagonists in this field are Prigogine, Meixner and de Groot, whose references are listed at the end of the paper.
