Reproduction en similitude de la diffusion dans la couche limite atmosphérique

The use of models as a means of studying plume diffusion is by no means new, but the problems which have been approached so far have come under the heading of classical aerodynamics rather than that of turbulent diffusion. Closer investigation of plume behaviour reveals the influence of : (i) almospheric conditions ; (ii) conditions governing emission from the source of pollution. The subject of this paper is an attempt to extend the scope of the model by showing which are the parameters governing the behaviour of an efluent plume and the similarity criteria to be deduced therefrom. Suitable simulation techniques are briefly reviewed and the features of a suitable wind tunnel for scale investigations of turbulent atmospheric diffusion described.
