After having referred to the main events taking place throughout the world in 1987, the author presents the policies of the Ministry of Environment as regards flood forecasting. He then recalls the activities of the " Flood forecasting group " of the " Société hydrotechnique de France ", one of its main activities being the setting up of the " Flood lorecasting guidelines "
