Abstract
Monaco realizations and projects To cope with its growth, Principality of Monaco has had, at many times, to reclaim land from the sea. As the waterdepth increases quickly off the shore, Monaco often innovated in that field.
The last reclamation: Fontvieille, was completed in 1971 at a waterdepth reaching 35 to 40 m. The urbanisation of this area being over, many projects have been studied at still more important depths, with metallic or concrete structures, without spilling spoil earth. For these types of structures, many technical, juridical and financial problems are to be solved. Taking into account all these elements, the design of a new ocean city, called Fontvieille 2, set at depths ranging from 40 to 80 m, is in process. Technics and methods are derived from the offshore petroleum ones.
