Abstract
White Paper "Energy for the Future: Renewable Sources of Energy" is the document which will lead the European policy for the promotion of these energies. Among the tools at disposal of the Commission, the THERMIE programme for energy technologies development supports demonstration actions in various fields including Small-scale hydroelectric plants (< 10 MW). Since 1984, many positive results have been obtained. The Vth Framework for R.T.D. (1999-2002) should continue the ongoing actions to allow Small Hydro to continue to develop.
