Abstract
Generally, in EDF power plants, preventive maintenance is used to avoid damage but very expensive work of corrective maintenance is sometimes made. Sometimes, difficulties require significant modifications which may give rise unavailability of production. To improve the availability, it is necessary to improve the technical specifications imposed to the manufacturers of the main components part like pumps. The way is to define new criteria in fields in which improvement is necessary and possible: dynamic behavior of lineshaft, cavitation and hydroacoustic behavior. The aim of this investigation is to define new criteria from state of the art analysis and our knowledge feedback. Criteria have to be realist, easily checkable, accepted by manufacturers and users, and to guarantee better and safer behavior of the pumps. In hydroacoustic field, pumps have to produce disturbance in a reasonably good level for the piping system. The criterion is established from the intrinsic hydroacoustic source which is allowable for a given hydraulic circuit. To verify the criterion at pumps acceptance tests, it is necessary to have a method - reliable and easy to use - of determination of the hydroacoustic properties of pumps.
