Impacts environnementaux des vidanges du barrage de Verbois
Environmental impacts of sediment flushing from the Verbois dam
Hydronat S.A., 3 rue François-Ruchon, CH-1203, Genève
Abstract
This paper briefly describes the environmental impacts of periodic sediment flushing from the Verbois dam on the Rhone River between Geneva and the French border. The environmental impact assessment is established on the basis of water quality, sediment concentrations, reed beds survival, hydro-biology and fish depletion, including bird and terrestrial fauna. On the basis of impact nature, remedial measures can be suggested and implemented such as backwater zones that act as places of refuge for wildlife against high currents and water level oscillations.
