Abstract
The role of the forest settlements in the control of the natural risks, in particular in mountain, is recognized : fight against the erosion and excesses of solid transport (floods, silting of reservoirs), regulation of the cycle of water in the grounds likely to slip, anchoring or stop of rock blocks, fixing of the snow cover in the avalanche slopes ; but this control also has its limits. The management of these settlements aims at ensuring the perenniality of this control : by as well as possible targeting the place and the nature of their interventions, while being based on the natural cycles of the settlements, the foresters endeavour to benefit from these assets while adapting to the economic conditions and the diversity of the situations of ground.
