Abstract
The present paper describes a method of optimisation of installations which permit a removal of pollution in contaminated grounds. This original process has been developed by ATE under the name of Triple Phase Extraction (TPE). The system uses a large number of wells of small size linked together by a pipe network. They produce the three fluids to extract, namely the polluted air from the so-called vadose zone, the liquid phase floating on the phreatic water nappe and the water which contains dissolved species. After extraction, the fluids are then processed by gravity decantation and chemical or absorption treatment to remove the volatile species. At first, the method of computation of all these components, including two phase flow calculations has been developed by Ylec Consultants. The corresponding equations have then been programmed in Visual Basic language. The resulting code enables ATE to optimize all the components used for fluid transportation (tanks, pipes, valves, tanks, vacuum pumps) as well as the water treatment plant. It permits to optimize Capex as well as Opex. This model is now used as a standard at ATE to optimize all their triple phase installations.
