Abstract

The development purposes and techniques of waterways have changed in relation to the interest that man attaches to some river functions to exploit and protect it (resources of water, energy, granulates, navigable passages, highwater outlets, natural drainage, landscape, leisures, ecosystem). The recent changes brings into question priorities accorded in the past to development needs linked to economic and sectorial enhancement of the river or the valley, to favour collective usage and protect the natural and traditional patrimony which are the river and its hydrosystem.
