Abstract

The development of the Seine Basin is closely linked to the development of Paris and the Paris Region. These developments are profoundly marked by the options taken in the 19th century, then by the high water of 1910. Development programmes were delayed at the time of the second world war. An improvement in works took place after the coming of the law on water of December 16th 1964 thanks to the action of the Seine-Normandy financial agency. New ideas came about at the time of the review of the guiding plan.for Ile-de-France, as part of the preparation of the VIth intervention programme by the agency and the implementation of the P.I.R.E.N. Seine research programme.
