Abstract

The January 1910 flood had its starting point source from meteorological conditions which started during the preceding autumn. The first week of 1909 were very wet, especially December with a rainfall in excess of about 50%. The first week of January at first stable and dry, was followed by two unsettled decades of exceptionnally heavy rainfall. The study of the January 1910 synoptic situations shows three separate unstable stages, that each of them had contributed to this phenomenon. If the first stage had mostly saturated the ground, heavy rainfall occured during the second stage which had been very active at the close of the second decade and the last stage saw moderate rain.
