Abstract
In the catchment basin of the Buëch, the "Terres Noires" form a highly erodible lithological unit. Within this strongly dissected landscape, a BRGM/ORSTOM project studies since 1986 the interaction between climate and geology, and weathering and erosion processes. Three elementary gullies (200 to 2 000 m2) have been equipped for the acquisition of climatological and hydrosedimentological data. The specific erosion, which is in the order of 200 t/ha/year, is unrelated to the surface area of the gullies. The erosion and weathering processes are strongly seasonnal. Showers of less than 10 mm height are note erosive. An empirical relation between sediment production and certain soil characteristics and rainy periods is presented.
