Numerical and experimental study of the pressure fluctuations in a turbine-pump air-gap

Abstract
Hydraulic turbomachinery and especially high head pump-turbines deal with complex vibrations. The control of these vibrations is difficult because it is essential to understand all phenomena involved. For ALSTOM Power Hydro, the understanding of these numerous phenomena is primordial since the knowledge of spatial pressure fluctuations fields permits to evaluate structural fatigue response. This article takes an interest in pressure fluctuations resulting from rotor stator interaction. Viscous numerical simulations are presented for different geometrical configurations and are compared with scaled model measurements.
