Identification and characterisation of groundwater bodies

Abstract

The Water Framework Directive says that Members States shall identify the groundwater bodies and set out their characteristics. In France, a method of identification of these groundwater bodies, based on hydrogeology characteristics has been developed. Seven different types of groundwater bodies have been identified. For each one rules of delimitation have been written. Using this methodology, the first results are a total number of 500 groundwater bodies. This number seems a good one. The paper presents the method and the firsts results supervised by the Water Director.
