Ce texte est le fruit d'une réflexion sur les connaissances acquises au contact des problèmes de l'eau et auprès des spécialistes brésiliens, au cours des vingt dernières années. Insistant sur quelques problèmes qui ont paru d'un intérêt certain, il offre une évocation non exhaustive, mais assez fidèle, de la progression des situations que l'on peut rencontrer dans l'évaluation, l'exploitation et la gestion des ressources en eau d'un pays des plus variés. Le Brésil est en effet le 5^e pays au monde pour sa superficie, le 7^e pour sa population (1980), le 10^e pour son P.N.B. (1980), et il abrite le cours terminal du plus grand fleuve du monde, l'Amazone.

Abstract

This paper is the fruit of reflections on the knowledge gained over the last 20 years in contact with problems of water and with Brazilian specialists. It highlights a few problems of interest and gives a faithful, although not comprehensive, evocation of the progression of situations which can be encountered in evaluating, exploiting and managing the water resources of a highly varied country. In effect, Brazil is the fifth country in the world by its size, the seventh by its population (1980), the tenth for its G.N.P (1980) and contains the terminal course of the largest river in the world, the Amazon.
