Abstract
Silting of a dam basin causes the reduction of the dam storage capacity due to the accumulation of sediments. Silting affects the performance of a dam basin since it reduces its regulation capacity and its service life; it lowers the efficacy of its management; and it induces lasting safety hazards. The negative impacts of silting are not limited to the dam itself; they also concern the downstrem adduction, distribution and treatment infrastructures. Finally, the sitting process jeopardizes the efforts of surface water development projects.
