Abstract
This paper presents the Historisk-Ardeche project, based on the collaboration between historians, archivists, hydraulicians and hydrologists. It provided the inventory of very extreme rainfall and flood values during the two last centuries on the Ardeche catchment. A long discharge data series (1644-2000) on the St-Martin-d'Ardèche area is issued from an hydraulic modelling, with an estimate of the relative errors. A flood frequency analysis shows a good agreement between the historical approach and an hydrometeorological approach (Gradex model).
