Abstract
For a long time, the department of Gironde and the agglomeration of Bordeaux used only surface waters to satisfy their needs. Since the beginning of the twentieth century, the new techniques of drillings made it possible to exploit the deep water tables. It was not necessary any more to transport water by expensive aqueducts. But the monitoring of these water tables realised as from the Sixties revealed an overexploitation of these resources. In order to organize a long-standing management of these water tables, a program of development and management has been elaborated between 1999 and 2002. It envisages savings and substitutions of resources. The cost of these measurements is very important and the program includes a mechanism of compensation based on the solidarity of all the users of water.
